Q: Toshiba Notebook?
I want a stylish, lightweight notebook that i can customize...preferably 15" i want fast and awesome...can anyone give me a headsup on a type of toshiba that fits this description? :)
A: The Toshiba A205. I have a review for you from NBR;
I really enjoy the mix of the trendy design, with the durable underlying structure of the Satellite A205. All of the key components are protected very well, including the display which can easily be the most expensive part to repair if damaged. Performance on this specific configuration was more than acceptable for my needs, but would not be able to even consider any serious gaming. A great use I found for this laptop was a portable media station, playing much of my HD content with ease, as well as having plenty of storage for the large files.
Pros
Nice bright screen with good color reproduction
Very large 250gb storage
Quiet CPU fan
Nice sleek design
Cons
Computer gets quite warm, might not be comfortable on bare legs
2nd HD bay with no connectors
Some bulky included software

Q: What does NTLDR mean when replacing a toshiba notebook hard drive?
I bought a new hard drive for my Toshiba notebook, After formatting the hard drive, I am getting a message that says NTLDR is missing, please ctrl, alt, delete top restart. When I do, I keep getting the same message. Can anyone help me with this, besides the guys at Geek Squad who want an arm and a leg to help me?
A: the NTLDR is your bootloader. Without it, it can't boot your OS. If you have Windows on your notebook, put in your installation disk and it will repair the problem by rewriting your NTLDR. If you don't yet, install it.
Note: If you are using something like Linux, you would see a different bootloader like LILO, which is why I'm assuming you're using Windows....
Q: How can I install a codec in my Toshiba Notebook to watch my DVD movies?
I have a notebook Toshiba with a DVD player, but it doesn't work properly. When I insert a DVD, it says that there is something called a CODEC and can't play the movie. What am I supposed to do?
A: It's easy. Just download the video codec from the internet. Here you go
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
After you download it, install it.
Q: my toshiba notebook wont go to screen saver as long as the optical mouse is active?
toshiba said it was because of the optical mouse. other notebooks can use an optical mouse and go to screen saver when inactive.
A: It's not your laptop, I have the same problem with a Microsoft wireless mouse that I use on two different laptops (one Sony and one Hp), and neither will go to screensaver with the wireless receiver plugged in. Microsoft claims it's a compatibility issue when you have a pcm and a dvd launching program running in the background. You can either close these programs or install a Windows Update that should fix the problem, have a look at this website:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911895 , btw, I already have all the updates and it didn't work for me, you could try a different brand mouse or unplug the receiver, too, or contact Microsoft about the problem, they're pretty good about helping with problems.
Q: whats the difference between a satellite and a tecra toshiba notebook?
I am trying to purchase a notebook but don't know which one. I have seen in college that many students use their notebooks in class and at the same time the internet withou using any cables? Can some one tell me how it works do I need to buy an adaptor or what other thing?
A: There are several differences as far as components and hardware, too many to go into here. If you want more information, you can go to the Toshiba website I put below. It all depends on what you want in a notebook.
As for wireless internet, most notebooks these days have an internal wi-fi card that will allow you to connect to a wireless network. If you want internet anywhere though, you'll have to get a wireless broadband card and subscribe to a seperate internet service for that.
Q: Toshiba notebook will not connect properly with Linksys router?
I have 3 Toshiba laptop/notebook machines. two of them find the wireless linksys just fine and there is just no problem using them. one of them, however, sees the linksys but will not go out to the internet. i have matched up the settings on all three machines. i have EVEN spoken with Linksys. they are their usual little help. i would be grateful for ideas.
A: Its not about ISP issue . we are sharing a single internet connection using a Linksys router .
If you have a cable ., try connecting it with the router and see if you are able go online . If yes ., then we can narrow down the issue to some wireless issue .
Go to the command prompt and type 'ipconfig' ., find the default gateway setting , ping it and see if you are getting a reply .
Make sure your firewall is turned off .
Make sure your router is close enough , and that there are not many electronic devices near by (Codeless phones esp) .
I suggest you call up linksys helpline ., i am sure they would be able to help you . I have limitations as you have not provided enough details .
Q: Is a Toshiba notebook better than an HP one or is a lenovo better?

A: I think they are all good. I have a Toshiba only because I caught a great weekend sale and it is not my main computer.

Amazon or bizrate for a list of sellers, then compare specifications and price.
Q: What kind of USB External Wireless card can I use for a Toshiba Satellite notebook?
I have a Toshiba Satellite A15-S1292 notebook but it wont allow me to install a wireless card. What kind of External wireless card will this be more compatible with?
A: Any USB wireless card should work, just isntall the CD for the drivers, and then plug in the dongle.
Set up to match your wireless router settings, and enjoy.
Q: Can someone tell me how to replace the harddrive on a Toshiba notebook (Satellite 1555CDS)?
I want to replace the harddrive on this notebook (Toshiba Satellite 1555CDS). Can someone link me to a schematic or service manual that will instruct me how?
A: With the laptop upside down facing you, remove the second screw from the front on the right hand side. This holds a small cover on the side in place. Pry the cover off with your fingernail, it should just pop right off. The hard drive has a small wire swivel handle on it. You must remove a small screw anchoring the hard drive bracket and then just pull the handle and the hard drive out. Remove the bracket and replace it on the new drive being sure you replace it in the proper orientation. Reinsert the new drive replace cover and screws and you are on your way.
Q: How can i change the region code on my laptop Toshiba notebook a300/300 from region 4 to region 1?
Im in australia and it wont play an american dvd that i bought
A: you put the dvd you got and put it into the drive, then open Toshiba hd dvd player (which you should have) then a thing should come up saying that you have the wrong region and if you would like to switch it, but be careful because you can only switch it like 4 or 5 times. Anyways click on the American region or the region number and it should work : )
p.s. if you don't have the dvd player you can probably download it online
Q: How can I find out if my Toshiba notebook is effected by the Sony battery recall?
A: Go to www.toshiba.com they have a list of the models that are affected by the recall, they also say even if you don't have a problem with your battery you should have it replaced because they give no warning before going dead.
Toshiba Customer Service 1-800-457-7777, they usually have a long wait time.
