Q: Notebook Memory !!!?
I just purchased a Dell Inspiron E1405 notebook computer. It supposedly has 60 GB of Hard Disk memory, but whenever I install a new program (that the add/remove menu displays as taking up less than 100 MB of memory) or save a small file, I check the hard disk memory and it reduces over 1 GB !!!!!
What could be the reason for such a significant decrease in the memory, and how would I resolve the problem??
A: Memory and disk space are different things.
"Add/Remove" programs is often very wrong - not only about the programs installed, but about how "often" they are used, and the disk space they take up. You can check the exact amount of disk space used by right-clicking over the directory you created for the install - that will give you a good idea.
Q: Where and what kind of memory do i need to upgrade my gateway notebook?
I wanna upgrade the memory on my Gateway MX6025 Laptop. Can I just get the kind on sale "notebook memory" from my computer discount giant, or do I need a special kind?
A: Go here:
http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.asp?Mfr%2BProductline=Gateway%2BMX+Series&mfr=Gateway&tabid=AM&model=MX6025&submit=Go
It's recommending here PC2700 and PC3200 but I believe that your model takes DDR 333 PC2700 memory. It could fit both, but to be on the safe side, I would get PC2700.
There are different types of RAM and it isn't a 1 type fit's all deal.
Q: I have a question about notebook memory?
I upgraded my notebook memory, I got the correct memory specificially designed for my notebook. I installed it, it seems to be working, however, when i go under my computer and check the properties, under RAM it still says 256, which was my old RAM. Any idea why the new memory didn't register itself?
A: Try restarting the machine and bringing up the BIOS instead of booting normally. Check to see what it says about your memory. If it doesn't see it either then you should try removing and reseating the memory module. You can also try reversing the positions of the two modules.
If it turns out that your machine only sees one stick at a time then they may have incompatible characteristics.
Q: Is there any way to fix notebook memory clamps that have broken?
Short story, bought some ram for my notebook (hp zv5034), took out the old memory from one slot and one of the plastic ejector/clamp attached to metal that holds the memory in broke, so the memory will not stay down and therefore will not work.
Is there any way that this can be fixed with gluing, etc. that anyone can recommend? I have two slots to work with but it just sucks that one slot has now been rendered useless. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
A: You could try to glue it, but be careful not to get any glue on the green board below or on the memory. Your best bet however is to check with the manufacturer to see about a replacement part
Q: Where can I find out if a notebook memory is compatable with my laptop?
I bought a kingston 1gb ddr2 pc2-5300 533mhz/667mhz memory card for my laptop. I want to know if it will work on my laptop. I have a compaq presario c500 that came with a 512mb. I dont have the manual for the computer so I cant check to see if its compatable. Does anyone know if the memory I bought is compatable or a website where I can check to see if it is? Thanks
A: cnet.com
Q: Will this notebook memory work for me?
I have a Compaq Presario V2000 notebook, which I currently have 1 Gb in memory. I would like to upgrade it to 2 Gb. My current configuration is 2 512 Mb cards, PC-2700, 333 Mhz, DDR. I went to the store today searching for two 1 Gb cards, and they have this on sale: PC-5300, 667 Mhz, DDR2. Will it work for me?
A: Nope. You cannot use DDR and DDR2 together, Your notebook takes DDR RAM, which dont accept DDR2 RAM as they are physically different. Which means you cannot plug in DDR2 into an DDR slot.
its best to buy 1GB x 2 of DDR-333, or 400 RAM if you can find them. As likely your notebook only has 2 slots max.
Q: How many RAM memory slots does the Inspiron 1501 notebook have?
I purchased an Inspiron 1501 6 months ago, and have a gigabyte of RAM. To upgrade, do I have to purchase two RAM sticks the same memory amount and speed as well as brand? Are notebook memory sticks identical with desktop sticks. Does each stick have to be identical in every aspect? Thanks.
A: no laptop memory is a different form factor .. and yes u should match ur ram but if its the same type u can mismatch it .. i wouldnt coz it defeats the purpose of upgrading for performance ...
Q: What is the different between SODIMM and SDRAM notebook memory ?
A: SODIMM is made (mostly) specifically for laptops. SDRAM is a slightly older type of memory (PC100, PC133 anyone? :).
If you're looking to upgrade a notebook, search by the model number to find out exactly what type of ram, maximum speed, size, and slots it can accomodate.
Q: What is the difference between Laptop/Notebook Memory and PC Memory? How do I distinguis between them?
A: Memory and Storage
A laptop's memory can make up for some of the reduced performance that comes from a slower processor. Some laptops have cache memory on or very near the CPU, allowing it to access data more quickly. Some also have larger busses, allowing data to move between the processor, motherboard and memory more quickly.
Laptops often use smaller memory modules to save space. Memory types used in laptops include:
* Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (SODIMM)
* Dual Data Rate Synchronous RAM (DDR SDRAM)
* Single data rate Synchronous RAM (SDRAM)
* Proprietary memory modules
Some laptops have upgradeable memory and feature removable panels for easy access to the memory modules.
Like a desktop, a laptop has an internal hard disk drive, which stores the operating system, applications and data files. However, laptops generally have less disk space than desktops. A laptop hard drive is also physically smaller than that of a desktop. In addition, most laptop hard drives spin more slowly than desktop hard drives, reducing both heat and power consumption.
Desktop computers have multiple bays for installing additional drives, such as CD and DVD ROM drives. However, space in a laptop is in much shorter supply. Many laptops use a modular design, allowing a variety of drives to fit in the same bay. These drives come in three different designations:
Q: How do I get instructions to upgrade my HP zd7140us notebook memory?
A: Go to HP's web site and in their search engine type in the model number of your laptop. There should be something there on how to update your computers memory, if not, write them. Good Luck.
Q: I have a sony vaio notebook with memory 512mb model vgn-fs315e. Is it possible to add more memory ?
I'm finding that I cant add to i-tunes now or open pictures because it says I'm low on virtual memory. Can I add in memory chips?
A: There are NO available slots on this VAIO model - If you wish to upgrade the memory, you must first remove one of the memory modules so that you can replace it with a larger module.
Memory Installed Slot 1 : 256 Mb
Slot 2 : 256 Mb
Maximum Memory 2048 MB
Memory Type SO-DIMM - 400Mhz (DDR2)
here is a link for you to purchase more memory
Q: how to get more memory out of my vista notebook?
Band new hp vista notebook. I upgraded memory to 2 gb. But still only like 35mb free in physical memory on task manager? I thought a memory upgrade would help?
A: Two gigs is plenty. Check the task manager to see what % of your memory is available. Don't pay to much attention to what is left in the system Physical Memory box. Mine says that I only have 35 megs free, but it also says that I'm using 44%. As you can see, these numbers do not agree. If you subtract the amount of memory being used from the amount that is installed, you have plenty left over for your applications.
Q: How can i upgrade my graphic memory on my notebook?
I have a dell inspiron 710m notebook with intel shared video memory of 32mb.... i plan on upgrading to windows vista but i need more video(graphic) memory. I know on a desktop you could just upgrade the graphic card easily but how would you do it on a notebook? especially since mine is running shared memory....is it possible? maybe there is an external pcmcia card? i dont know...or would i have to just get a new notebook?
A: the Dell Inspiron 710m has a Graphics Media Accelerator GMA 900 graphics chip and is capable to allocate up to 128MB of system memory, depending on the total installed amount.
as a rule of thumb you can say up to 1/8 of the system memory is allocated for graphics, therefore the 128MB can be achieved if 1GB or more system memory is installed.
despite the possibility of allocating 128MB system memory the GMA 900 is only caused suitably for windows vista.
Q: How much is 512 MB memory on a notebook?
Means how many stuff can I have saved on my notebook? Is it good to have this 512MB memory or is it better to have more memory.
A: Pronounced ramm, acronym for random access memory, a type of computer memory that can be accessed randomly; that is, any byte of memory can be accessed without touching the preceding bytes. RAM is the most common type of memory found in computers and other devices, such as printers.
There are two basic types of RAM:
# dynamic RAM (DRAM)
* static RAM (SRAM)
The two types differ in the technology they use to hold data, dynamic RAM being the more common type. Dynamic RAM needs to be refreshed thousands of times per second. Static RAM does not need to be refreshed, which makes it faster; but it is also more expensive than dynamic RAM. Both types of RAM are volatile, meaning that they lose their contents when the power is turned off.
In common usage, the term RAM is synonymous with main memory, the memory available to programs. For example, a computer with 8M RAM has approximately 8 million bytes of memory that programs can use. In contrast, ROM (read-only memory) refers to special memory used to store programs that boot the computer and perform diagnostics. Most personal computers have a small amount of ROM (a few thousand bytes). In fact, both types of memory (ROM and RAM) allow random access. To be precise, therefore, RAM should be referred to as read/write RAM and ROM as read-only RAM.
Usually when we speak of memory we speak of saving capacity and to be sure you can right click on "My computer" icon and then go to properties and in their see how much RAm or memory you have if it is 512 MB RAM then it is nice and if you wanna check you hard drive.
Double click on my computer and right click on drive C: and click propwerties this will show you how much Hard drive space you have.
Rest if you want nay other information go to the website of the manufacuter of the laptop and in the search tab enter your laptop model number and click search it will give you the exact product details of the laptop....
