Q: Pc notebook?
I want to buy a PC notebook with windows vista that is best for multimedia, and is not to heavy or to big. Can someone recommend a notebook ?

A: I just got this new Dell Inspiron not too heavy, seems ok ( only had a week ) I will say this, whatever brand you get, if you get Vista, make sure you go for the 2gb of RAM. needs ram for Vista alone and if you are doing multimedia, it's a MUST.

Q: How will my new wireless PC notebook work with my current Apple Airport router?
I have Verizon Online as an ISP in my home. I have an iMac which uses Safari to connect. I am about to buy a PC notebook (probably a Dell Inspirion) that will have wireless capability. So here are the questions: 1.Are all wireless routers universal, -compatible with all wireless-ready computers?? 2. What PC internet program would I use to connect to the internet, using, for instance, a Dell Inspirion notebook? 3. Will I need to install the Verizon Online software on my new laptop in order to connect to the internet, or will my wireless computer automatically access the internet via the wireless router, without any configuration on my part? 4. Am I overcomplicating this? Thanks, Dee

A: Both macs and PCs use the same wireless protocols to connect to the internet so it should not be a problem to connect a PC to your Airport. Depending on your new laptops Operating system (XP or Vista) it is simple. Look for the little computer icon on the bottom right of your desktop. right click it and select "view available wireless networks" A new window should pop up and then you select your airport network and click the connect button. Type in your password if you have a password (WEP/WPA) to log into your wireless network, And your golden. No extra programs/software needed.

Q: What are physical or hardware drawbacks of owning a laptop or notebook pc?
I am writing a persuasive speech on Desktop pc vs. Laptop pc's. I need some creative reasons why a desktop pc is better then a laptop or notebook pc. I need reasons I don't want comments like "they arn't better".

A: well it is easier to ruin a laptop. say you have a drink by your desktop and accidentally spill well its ok because it is just your keyboard, but if you spill on your keyboard on your laptop then most times its ruined. This happened to me but luckily i have great insurance and got it fixed, but not everyone purchases insurance, especially college students.

Q: How did my notebook PC damage my desktop PC monitor?
I placed my notebook computer in front of my desktop PC monitor with the desktop PC monitor switched off. I used my laptop for about 6 hours. When I switched my desktop PC monitor back on, I noticed two large spots of color (one blue, one purple -- both with gray edges) on my desktop PC monitor. What happened and is there any way to erase the spots?

A: Assuming you do not have a flat LCD monitor but a CRT (big Tube) , it is showing the effects of being placed to close to an AC electrical field. A magnet or exposure to close Alternating Current electricity will change the orientation of phosphers inside the CRT creating all kinds of colorful and unwanted effects. The Cure is "De-Gaussing" this is done using a coil that has AC running through it. It essentially radomizes the phosphers back to where they will light up properly... this is also how magnetic tape is erased... and unfortunately the same will happen to your ATM card if placed too close to a magnet or AC field... some monitors have a "De-Gaussing" button as this is an old known issue. If it becomes too bad,(leave them together for a couple weeks) it can be impossible to get rid of

Q: Why buy a macbook over a pc notebook?
I'm just wondering why people choose macbooks over a pc notebook because you can get a pc with better specs and for cheaper.

A: I've been a pc user all my life and I have never had one single problem with viruses.. I don't know why so many people keep complaining about 'PCs and Viruses'. Just get an anti-virus. PC is great because you can run all kinds of games on it without any difficulty.

Q: What is the best Notebook PC/laptop brand out there?
I will be getting a new Notebook PC/laptop by October. I have made a lot of research and so far HP tops the list in terms of specifications & reviews. I'm not a very brand conscious person however its one of the factors i consider. Most branded laptops have been proven on the highest quality & could last a very long time. I would highly appreciate your inputs.

A: That's a very personal question. You really have to go to the store and feel them for yourself. Sometimes the keys will be mushier than others, HP's have glossy smooth keyboards and a dimpled textured touchpad. Most other manufacturers have a soft textured keyboard and touchpad. Sony keyboards usually feel a little less confident in their responsiveness. Also if you absolutely have to have a trackpoint then you'll need an IBM or Lenovo. In the end it will really come down to personal preference for you and what features you want. Don't forget though that size and weight are features if you're planning to carry the laptop anywhere, a lot of people overlook that and just go for performance. But if you're not going to carry it around you spent too much money on a laptop when you could've gotten a better performing desktop. Personally I have a 5 year old Dell Inspiron with a 15 inch screen, and a 8 month old HP Pavillion with a 12 inch screen. I'm definitely more willing to put the HP in a bag and take it with me than I was with the Dell, and I've become comfortable to the glossy keyboard which really makes me want to touch it. Both are very sturdy and decently performing units, but the HP has a lot more style to it compared to the Dell. Any way you go, whether it's Lenovo, HP, Dell, Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, or Apple, you won't likely get any disrespect from other laptop users, they are all capable units ready for life with a road warrior or a student taking notes in class. When you know the specs you want, go with your heart on the rest if there are comparable units.

Q: How do I connect my notebook PC to my entertainment system?
I have a compaq V6105NR notebook PC. How can I hook up the video and audio to my entertainment system? what cables and connectors do I need? I was thinking of hooking it up to my entertainment system via the front inputs usuaully used for VCR/camcorder. I have hooked up the audio and that works fine, but I need to know what cable to use to hookup the video. The entertainment system has an RCA jack for aux video. Thanks

A: You can easily hook up your laptop to your entertainment system if they both have S-Video ports. Just use an S-Video cable. If you dont have an S-Video port on your laptop, you will need to get a device that converts VGA to S-Video or Composite Video.

Q: What advice would you give a friend whether to buy a PC notebook or Apple notebook?
What are the specifications of each and what is availble and can be done on each. What are the hardware specifications provided for both and their v'extras'.My friend is planning to use this notebook for school and will require the following programs: Word processing Budgeting software Calculator Internet access. Please help. Thanx a lot.

A: A notebook PC could easily handle all of the applications your friend will need for college and they're also a lot cheaper than Apple. If your friend has a lot of money to burn and really wants to impress people, then he can go get the Apple. He won't really notice a difference with the programs he'll be using. It's like a person that doesn't really travel too much having to choose between a Toyota Corolla or a Mercedes Benz... * lol@guy above me *

A: Now and over the next 8 weeks as Windows Vista rolls out is a great time to buy a new PC. Retailers will be clearing out computers with Windows XP (which will still be around for several years) to make room for the new ones with Windows Vista. You can put windows XP on an Apple MacBook (which for my money is the best laptop out right now... you also might want to look at Dell's refurbished computers, Apple also has them too. Hope this helps
