Q: Are either mechanical warranty ($150/3yrs) or accident protection ($100) worthwhile on Compaq Notebook?
Original cost of Compaq Notebook $699
Mechanical Warranty covers all diagnostic, repairs, labor, battery replacement for 3 years. Can be purchased without Accident warranty.
Accident Warranty covers dropping, spills, etc. for 3 yrs. Can't be purchased separate from mechanical warranty.
A: note book maybe because most of the about 90% chance that if you break something all you could do is buy a new note book or get the part only from the manufacter which is really expensive
Q: My DVD drive disappeared. Help! Compaq Notebook.?
I sent it in for repairs... a speaker with a bad connection, my dvd drive came loose internally, and it wouldn't scroll on the touchpad. It came back and this speaker is still messed up, the touch pad works perfectly (though it did stop a few hours after I got it back and had to trouble shoot over the phone with a tech support), and, after I got off the phone with the tech support, I restarted my computer and the dvd drive doesn't work.
This is just a lemon. My sister bought the exact same model at the same time and place I did, and her's works perfectly!
A: Send it back to repair, it's a lemon. Oh, and avoid HP and Compaq laptops, they have really poor build quality.
Q: My Compaq M2000 notebook suddenly the screen went all whitish..?
Then when i restart, the screen becomes white all over and cant see a thing..
Whats the problem?
I asked the HP centre, they said its the processor..
Im so sad now that if i have to replace it, it would cost just like a new one..
Or are they just telling me that to make me repair it at a high price?
I need someone knowlegdeble on this to tell me..
im so so sad.. i was just using it happily today without any probs..
Suddenly???
Advice on wat to do or comfort me.. *sob *sob*
thanks guys
A: I don't think it was the processor's problem.
The processor's problem would result in screen black but not white..
Was it turn white in the windows or at POST?
If in the Windows that might be the software issue.Try to enter the safe mode and uninstall some unkown software or re-install the graphics driver.
If at POST, there might be something wrong with the hardware ,and you need to repair it.the screen might be broken :(
Q: Legal implications of warranty and ,repair issues. HP Pavillion Notebook?
My HP pavillion notebook within the 1yr warranty period was sent to canadian service center with overheating issues. They changed the Fan unit and the Mother board. When I recieved the machine I was surprised that they have not replaced the original mother board of Hp Pavillion since they confirmed they don't have in stock and is on back order ,but replaced it with a Compaq Presario motherboard. Now when I restart my machine it shows a Compaque logo ,the help center page shows it is a compaque Presario total care page they have flashed the BIOS to make it look llike Pavillion removed the Product no..
I had to send the machine to them 3 times and it is almost 6 weeks now . They have eaten up my warranty of 6 weeks although I was told they will repair within 3-5 days.Despite complaints to repair center, arguing with case manager ,writing to CEO about the whole issue , they don't care and don't reply. Please suggest what should I do?Is a legal notice only option? Thanks
A: that does suck. if it was in the USA, then all you would is turn them in to the better business burea. since in canada, you might ask a lawer about sending them some sort of legal paper about sueing them. that will get their attension and also publish something in the news paper. that will really get them..good luck...
Q: Where can I get system recovery cd for my Notebook?
My computer has always worked great. It is a Notebook-Model # Presario 2200(PMO45UA#ABA Procesor type-Intel (R) Celeron (R) MCpu Speed 1.40 GHz Bios Versoin F.10 with Windows XP. I know it is not the newest of computers, but like I said Has always worked great. One day when I went to turn it on I got the screen that said
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTE...
You can attempt to repair this file by starting WIndows setup using the original setup Cd-Rom.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.
I called Compaq and they want to charge me $27 and change.
Anybody know how I can get one for free?
A: Most computer uses to ship with a restore disk and newer computers actually have a partition on there hard drive that is used to restore the computer. I'm not sure exactlly how old your computer is but if you have the restore disk you could use that and check to see if it says anything about hitting a certian key at boot up to restore the computer. If you can't find that a copy of windows could also work if you borrow it from a friend and just uses your windows key code.

Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated as this was a gift from my brother and I am greatly stressed. Thanks so much.
A: If this is for insurance, you most likely have "replacement cost" insurance, not "depreciated value" (if not, I'd look at suing your insurance agent for not recommending replacement cost, since it's only a few buck more than depreciated value.)
If you do have replacement-cost, then just go out and find a machine that most closely matches those specs (shouldn't be hard, that hardware listed is still available in systems) and see what the cost of that new mahcine is.
Otherwise, search ebay and see what that system model has sold for in the past, taking into account the description of wether it's in "excellent" or "well used" shape.
Q: how do i repair my system config file without the restore cds?
i have an hp compaq nx6110 notebook and i am getting an error saying i need to repair a file...system32/config/system....says the file is corrupt...i dont have the cds that should have come with it at purchase.
A: I hope you've got a backup then, because that's one very important directory there in System32\Config. It's where the registry files are stored.
BTW, please do not, I repeat, do not copy, equivalent files from another system in the folder as the person below suggested. These are registry files, very specific to your system. You have only three choices:
1) find a way of repairing them
2) restore system state or drive image from backup
3) reinstall windows
Here's the link to MS' Registry Repair Utility. It says it's for Win2k though:

Q: Can I use ASUS L2000 LCD to replace Compaq Presario 1500 LCD?
I have a faulty notebook (Compaq Presario 1500). The LCD doesn't work. I wolud like an instruction on how to replace or even repair it
A: These screens probably aren't compatible. You can try it, but if the resolutions are different, you won't get an image.
I'd get the exact screen that you need from http://www.screentekinc.com or eBay. ScreenTek has removal instructions on their site as well.
Good luck.
Q: How to repair your DVD-CD RW?
I have a compaq notebook with installed DVDplayer/CD RW with it, and I have power DVD player and Nero CD burner. In the beginning,
I can watch DVD and I can burn my pictures ( images) into any CD with it.
But After 5-6 months , I cant burn CD nor read any of my previous burnt CD ( to view my older pictures) no longer, even though I still able to watch DVD
What suprises me is , when I insert any CD in it ,empty or written ( outside DVD), the properties it shows is : 0
( it not showing the CD's statistics, nor memory in it, as if there's no CD at all inside the device )
It's a Samsung DVD/CD RW.
Anybody can help my problem? is it a software problems? or what?
thanks so much guys :)

Q: Computer hangs going into Sleep or Hibernate mode after removing Norton, What can I do?
I have a Compaq Presario notebook running Windows XP Prof. I removed Norton using Revo Uninstaller which scrubbed the registry clean too. I also ran a registry cleaner to check for unwanted entries. But the system hangs going into sleep or hibernate. And I don't dare using HP/Compaq's system restore because it will just put Norton and a host of other unwanted programs back on my system. Did try using a legit copy of Windows XP Pro to try and do a repair but the screen keeps coming back that there's an administrative password when there is none. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Turning off hibernate and sleep modes on a laptop is not really an option. Maintaining a windows session to move a laptop takes less time than shutting it down, rebooting, and finding all of the necessary files once more to show to someone. Sleep and Hibernate worked just fine while Norton was on the system.
A: If you are the only one that is using the computer. Restart computer, go into safe mode, administrator account.
go to Documents & Settings and delete the profile that you actually use. You can't just use the add/remove User cause it doesn't actually remove the profile, just disconnects it. Usually it's titled "Owner" or maybe your name.
Be sure to reboot before doing this and back up any files that you have to the Administrator account for putting back into your profile later.
Alot of times there are issues between a profile, the registry and latent program files. can cause freezes and hangs. also a great way to avoid reloading your computer.
try using AVG for free, not as invasive as major AV programs, works great and it's free!
Q: Windows XP on a Compaq HP Laptop- CPU IS Dead In Water!?
I am (TRYING!) to repair my mother inlaw's notebook, she has a Compaq HP Laptop and she describes it as just stopped working- now i've looked at it and it appears she's tried to re-install windows xp and stopped the installation on the 2nd or 3rd last step prior to the process being finished- To add she doesn't have the original disc anymore and my windows xp disc doesn't work with it- it sends a fatal error when attempted to resume the installation- So now i can not start it up to a normal desktop, safemode or anything- Please can someone give me some pointers to repiar this- She is driving me nuts with this and has been for 6 months- she won't just take it to a computer repair guy she won't pay for it and honestly now this has become a personal goal of mine to fix it ! LOL! Thank you for any assistance you can give!
A: Use your disk and reformat into NTFS - then load the operating system. You will need her key during installation.

A: Go Start, then Control Panel, then select Network and Internet Connections, then select Network Connections. Now right click on Local Area Connections, and select Properties, then in the new window select the Authentication Tab. Remove the checkmark from Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network. Now press ok. Try going on the internet it should work.

Q: I inserted recovery disk into my laptop. What do I do now?
I have an hp compaq n6000 notebook. I'm looking at a black screen that says "The Recovery Console provides system repair and recovery funcitonality. Type EXIT to quite the Recovery Console and restart the computer". Below that is "C:\>" followed by the cursor. What should I do??
A: 1.insert recovery disk into drive
2.switch on your computer
3.press the button it says on the first screen for "Boot Menu"
4.select CD-ROM from the boot menu
5.Your PC will boot from the disk and you can browse the various options to find one that suits you best
It might have an option to put your laptop in an out-of-box state,
that is, put it into the condition in which you bought it.
This works well (I had to do this thrice on my Toshiba Satellite A100) but back up your data.
Q: why do hp notebooks not even last one year?
i have a persario and a pavillion notebooks from hp and they both died on me . i sent both back for repairs and today i recieved them back. but now my hard drives do not work on both computers. so i wanted to know if anyone else is having issues with hp/compaq notebooks
A: No and I would say that they give very good service
Phone then up and they will fix any problems inside a year but go one day over and that is your lot.
Q: How can I fix a vertical thin blue line that appeared on my notebook monitor?
A vertical thin blue line appeared on my notebook, I may have given it a bump or two, but nothing too serious. I hooked it up to a CRT monitor to test if it was a software problem and it´s not...sometimes when I move around the monitor on the hinges, the line disappears..sometimes when I move it too much, a second line a few inches to the right of the other one appears for less than a second.
Is there a way to repair this without taking it to the shop or replacing it? Could it be something is loose and can be readjusted or tightened?
It´s an LCD screen, and it´s an HP Compaq nx6325 monitor.
A: Laptop screens are connected with what's called a "ribbon" cable. Many times the connector on the motherboard isn't very sturdy due to the nature of laptops (small and light and cheap as possible).
If the warranty is already over, you can take apart the laptop (just taking out the keyboard is probably all you need to do) unlatch the ribbon cable, pull it out gently, and then push it back into the slot (straight down and without much force) and while holding it in place, re-latch the connector. If that doesn't help - the connector on the LCD end is probably going bad...and I'm not sure what to tell you at that point - Ebay is your friend?
Edit:
Just to clarify, if that doesn't work either the LCD itself is going bad or the hard-soldered on part of the cable is going bad. Either way, that usually requires a replacement screen unless you're good at electronic repair.
